But where do you even begin? It's still challenging and somewhat abstract to grasp at this point. So, to assist you in overcoming that preconceived notion, here is how to start meditation in three simple steps.
1. Locate a Quiet Area: Locate a quiet spot where you can do your practice.
Meditation can be practiced anyplace, although it is much easier when you are not distracted by other activities or people. This is especially true for those who are just starting out. So choose a quiet place to meditate, and if you want to make this a regular practice, try to make it somewhere that you will be able to visit regularly.
Now take a seat wherever you are most comfortable. However, do not lie down because you risk falling asleep if you do!
2. The second step is to schedule some time off to recharge your batteries.
This can be accomplished by using a timer, eliminating the need to constantly check your watch or be concerned about overshooting and missing an appointment. Ten minutes will be enough time to get things going if you're starting. Honestly, you can benefit from just five minutes of your time.
We should all be able to find five minutes of peace and quiet in our daily lives. If you cannot do so, the problem is likely more complex than you imagined! This is something that many individuals are unaware of when they make excuses for not getting started.
3. Finally, the next stage is to narrow your attention.
That entails concentrating on something specific, such as breathing or even repeating a word or phrase again. It's also possible to focus on something in your immediate environment.
For example, focusing on a single flame is a frequent practice these days. Then there's the alternative of concentrating on emptying your mind or possibly focusing on reflecting on those thoughts in a detached manner.
You are simply attempting to regain conscious control over your attention. Direct your attention toward something that is not stressful and will assist you in recovering a little energy and a good mood, whatever the case may be. Meditation is as basic as that, and it is actually relatively easy to do.
If you're still having trouble, you might want to explore using a guided meditation to help you through the process. These guided meditations will coach you through a script that will assist you in directing your attention in the right direction.
It's amazing how important a little, positive habit like spending just ten minutes of daily meditation can become. Take a step back, slow down, and re-prioritize daily meditation back into your life.
